I don’t have one single recipe to share lately. We had our fair share of eating out this last week. Jack visited my family in ND, which gave us ample opportunity to try some old favorite restaurants. I got wind on Twitter and through MN Food Bloggers about how wonderful dinner has been with Chef Adam Vickerman back at Cafe Levain. We had enjoyed dinner at Cafe Levain and at Trattoria Tosca when he was in the kitchen a few years ago. Chef Vickerman did not dissapoint on our return visit last Sunday night. Dinner was superb.
Cafe Levain has a 3-course Prix Fix Dinner Menu for $25 every Sunday, so we didn’t hesitate to look at the regular menu. For an additional $15, we ordered the wine pairing. I’m convinced this is the best fine-dining deals in Minneapolis right now.
The first course was Cucumber Salad with Pearl Barley, Cherry Tomato, Squash Blossoms, Garlic Scapes, Mizuna, and Garden Herbs. A garden on a plate.
We had a choice of Wild Red King Salmon or Roast Chicken for our entree. We both chose the Wild Red King Salmon, served with Charred Kale, Bread Salad, Stone Fruit, and Olive. This entree was the best and most creative salmon dish I’ve ever had. Bursting with flavors and textures. Incredible.
Last but not least, was the dessert. Entremets au Chocolat: Coffee Ice Cream with Pecans, Mint, Chocolate Coffee Mousse, and Chocolate Crumble. Devine.
Get yourself to Cafe Levain for Sunday night dinner. . .or any other night. It’s a true gem of a restaurant in South Minneapolis.
