I ate a lot of “Irish Meat” last night. I attended a MN Food Bloggers event that was held at The Local in downtown Minneapolis. I had the pleasure to meet many talented foodie writers; not to mention two of the owners of The Local, Kieran Folliard and Peter Killen. Chef Mike Phillips from Green Ox Meats and The Local kitchen prepared the feast. And it certainly was a feast.
We all started the evening off with a small glass of Two Gingers Whiskey served over ice.
We heard a short presentation given by the owners and chefs. The Local is the world’s largest restaurant distributor of Jameson Whiskey. Fifty percent of the sales are from food. They offer employees health, dental, and 401K benefits. Impressive.
And then we moved on to the food from Green Ox Meats . . .charcuterie, pigs feet, sausage with mashed potato, whiskey glazed chicken shot, and more. I missed out on the fish and chips. The veggie burger on top of a cucumber was nice and light after eating heavier proteins.
I tasted the best hot dog I’ve ever eaten. This one met my criteria for grass-fed beef and then some. A pretzel bun. Incredible.
And carrot cake with a whip cream frosting and brittle to sweeten the evening.
Such a lovely evening meeting new people, enjoying good food and spirits!
